National Hispanic Cardiology Leadership Network (NHCLN)

A partnership between the Alliance and the American College of Cardiology (ACC), the National Hispanic Cardiology Leadership Network (NHCLN) mission is to serve as a network of support and explore issues critical to Hispanic cardiologists and those serving Hispanic communities. Founded in 2007, the NHCLN is the leading professional voice on Hispanic heart health through the development and dissemination of new products to the cardiology health professional community.

The NHCLN functions under the leadership of co-chairs Dr. Miguel A Quiñones, Member, ACC Board of Trustees; and Dr. Hector O. Ventura, Editor of Cardiosource en español, ACC. NHCLN workgroups are working to improve heart health through efforts in the following areas:

NHCLN Network Meeting
  • Workforce Development: Chaired by Dr. Miguel A Quiñones, Efforts in this area seek to increased awareness of workforce issues and increase mentorship and training opportunities.

  • Patient and Provider Education: Chaired by Dr. Mayra Guerrero, Efforts in this area focus on the development of consumer factsheet heart health series in a bilingual/bicultural format. Factsheets are distributed through ACC (CardioSource and CardioSmart) and the Alliance (1-866-SU-FAMILIA and hispanichealth.org/cardio).

  • International Efforts: Chaired by Dr. Juan Carlos Plana, Efforts in this area includes work with partner the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), to promote heart health throughout the Americas.

  • Science and Policy Efforts: Chaired by Dr. Illena Piña, this workgroup is developing a review of available literature on Hispanic heart health, and informing heart health professionals about new research in Hispanic heart health.
